Rural Crisis

Like tourism, agriculture is a significant sector of the Scottish Borders economy and those who work or run a rural business are not unaffected by the COVID-19 crisis.

Chamber Directors Lee-Anne Gillie and Jack Clark spoke with Fergus Eweing MSP yesterday, to raise awareness of the challenges faced. Amongst them, the need to ensure business continuity for our beef cattle and sheep production and the impact of 40% of the region’s shoots being cancelled, with staff being made redundant and unable to be furloughed.

We will continue to work with @Rachael2Win, and others, to ensure a fair deal is achieved for our rural community.
