Alex Dalgetty & Sons is a fifth generation artisan bakery based in Galashiels, in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

My name is Craig Murray, great great grandson of Alex Dalgetty. My passion for baking has been passed on through the generations.

My philosophy is to stay true to the traditions of the bakery, using high quality ingredients and traditional recipes to create world famous products such as the Famous Original Selkirk Bannock and Scotch Black Bun.

In fact, I justifiably claim to have the only surviving genuine recipe for the Selkirk Bannock. Alex Dalgetty worked for the inventor of the Selkirk Bannock, a baker named Robert Douglas from Selkirk. Alex left to set up his own bakery in Galashiels around the late 1800’s and brought the recipe with him. Dalgetty’s have been making them to this recipe ever since.

My bakery in Galashiels features traditional Scotch ovens which are over 120 years old and are still used on a daily basis. With a small team of skilled and dedicated craft bakers I ensure that we stick to traditional methods and techniques making us unique. I am also proud to say that I always use scratch recipes for all products would never use pre-mixes.

With shops in Galashiels and Melrose also featuring a TeaRoom, and an ever increasing number of retailers across the country keen to get their hand on my products, I am delighted that customers recognise and appreciate the uniqueness of Alex Dalgetty & Sons.
