Brian Sutherland is a Galashiels-based photographer in the stunning Scottish Borders. After leaving school in 1985, he enrolled in a photography course at our local college, although always keeping a keen interest, his career in photography started in 2007 when a local newspaper published a few of his landscape images, this led to a weekly column (Sutherlands Scenery), which then led to commission work at weekends, then onto a daily basis. Within the first year, Brian had gained clients such as Johnston Press, News Quest, Scotch Beef, Harbro, Heriot-Watt University. Work also started coming in from national newspapers, Brian went on to photograph portraits and weddings at the beginning of 2009 to which still plays a large part in his working week. In 2016 Brian was commissioned to capture the latter stages of the Queensferry Crossing near Edinburgh, working for FCBC (Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors) documenting the progress and capturing all the faces behind the scenes, as well as the walkovers and the Royal Opening by Her Majesty The Queen. Brian’s images were used within the Royal Brochure and used along with a foreword from The Queen. Brian’s images were also used in abundance throughout the newly published Queensferry Crossing book, FROM VISION TO REALITY By David Watt, brought out to celebrate such a marvel in structural engineering. Recently I have been commissioned to photograph, film, and carry out drone work for CPE consultancy, Hawick Flood Protection Scheme, and South of Scotland Enterprise.
