Founded in 1834, Galashiels Town Band is a community brass band in the town. Providing tuition, hosting concerts, and performing across the town during festive events.
Founded in 1834, Galashiels Town Band is currently in the process of rebuilding a strong community band in the town. 2011 saw the formal launch of the Youth Band followed by the Junior Band in 2012.
In 2019 the band took a significant step forward and for the first time for over 30 years, Gala Town Band led the Gala Day Parade with the help of our friends from Selkirk Silver Band.
The two Bands offer brass tuition in an ensemble setting to all young persons in the Galashiels area. The bands regularly compete in local and national youth competitions. Currently, there are 50 young people in the two bands. We mainly recruit from Primary 5 & 6 pupils in the local schools.
The senior band rehearses every Tuesday night from 7:45 – 9:15 pm in the Band Hall at 6a, Roxburgh Street.
We are always looking for new members and welcome players of any standard.
We are a non-contesting band but nonetheless aspire to high standards. We focus on enjoyment from the music, from performing with others, and on seeing everyone improve year on year.
Affiliated with the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association and the Scottish Brass Band Association, we play at a number of events around the Borders throughout the year. The Braw Lads’ Week and Christmas Eve Carol Service are just two of the highlights in our calendar.
