βA magnificent 16th-century castle set in a quiet meadow landscape on the outskirts of Lauder in the Scottish Borders, a charming town just over half an hour from the south of Edinburgh.
The historic seat of the Earls and Duke of Lauderdale, Thirlestane is one of the oldest and finest inhabited castles in Scotland. Since 1590 it has been home for the Maitlands and my family and I are the latest generation to have the privilege of living here.
Now owned and run by a charitable trust, the castle is open to the general public as a visitor attraction throughout the summer and is also a year-round exclusive use venue for private celebrations and corporate functions. Luxury accommodation within the castle itself allows guests to spend even longer enjoying the tranquil, parkland settingΒ
Preserving this beautiful building and its collections for today, tomorrow and for the future is a huge challenge for all those involved. Every penny from admissions, events and the accommodation goes into this preservation and helps make sure Thirlestane Castle can be open for many more years to come. We are so thankful for your support and it is what makes everything we do so worthwhile.”
