The Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary
The Scottish Borders donkey sanctuary. Located at the 80-acre estate – The Holmes, St. Boswells, near Melrose, in The Scottish Borders – the animals fortunate in having been re-homed here, are accommodated in small groups in well-fenced and watered paddocks of permanent pasture, each with a field shelter.

The Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary was started by Mrs Rosemary Dale, at The Holmes, St Boswells, in the autumn of 2003.
In the beginning she had two donkeys and in a very short time this increased to 23.
Here we are now, some 17+ years later and we have 150 donkeys under our umbrella. We have chosen specially selected homes to rehome 46 donkeys on our behalf.
At this time we also home 4 llamas, 5 pigs, 5 peafowl, 10 ponies and 4 mules.
There is a handsome Edwardian stone built stable block consisting of loose boxes, stalls, tack room and washing facilities round a cobbled yard. The estate has an ambience of its own – the beautiful views over the River Tweed and the tree-lined driveways are breath-taking whatever the season of the year.
